Northern Lavvu now offers wooden pole kits that can be mailed directly to your doorstep. They are strong, light weight (21 pounds) and can be carried in a compact car. The ten and fifteen foot long poles for a ten or fifteen foot diameter lavvu are broken down to five feet lengths and easily put into a carrying bag. The five foot bags are the upper limit of the United States Post Office to accept for mailing.

Note: Presently, the lavvu pole kits can only be mailed within the United States and Canada - however, we will design new 'European friendly' poles that can be mailed through all European postal systems shortly.

All of the poles shown here are for the ten-foot diameter lavvu but can be for any other size.

Traditional poles are normally made of spruce, aspen or similar trees and contrary to Native American Tipis', lavvu poles are often far less than perfectly straight. Northern lavvu does not provide these poles, but we do provide instructions on how you can acquire and prepare your lavvu poles from the forest for the pole structure. Preparing traditional poles do take some time and work but are well worth the effort for the natural look and rustic feel of your lavvu.

In Scandinavia, it was common for lavvu poles to be left behind when breaking camp, leaving them for the next visitor or another season. If the poles were transported, they were carried or dragged rolex replica by their lead reindeer to the next campsite.

As shown here, the top ends of traditional lavvus are not normally squared to fit. The emphasis in lavvu building is on finding poles that were long enough, rather than looking for that 'perfect' pole - which in northern Scandinavia, rarely exists.

The retractable aluminum poles that we offer are excellent for deep woods camping or travailing by canoe. These poles, when extended are over ten feet (3 m.) in length and in are strong enough to support the heavy denim of the ten foot lavvu. They can be retracted down to only six feet (1.8 m) long. Weighing only twenty pounds, you can load these poles into compact car or in a canoe. We know one person who carried these poles on a motorcycle - including the lavvu cover!

Please note that the retractable aluminum poles are only available for the ten foot lavvu due to weight restrictions of the larger lavvus.

Due to weight restrictions of the fabric, these poles are only available for the ten-foot (3 m.) diameter lavvu.
