Jørgen Thomassen
(>1701-1792)

Jørgen's relations to Thomis Olsøn (1634/41->1701) and Thomis Tomisen (1681-1730) is somewhat confusing. There are several reasons for this:

First, there is no Jørgen Thomassen listed in the 1701 census for the Sandvigen farm and Jørgen does not appear in the records (thus far researched) for Sandvigen until 1752. It is possible that Jørgen could have been born after 1701, making him the youngest of Thomis Olsøn's family, but there would have been a twenty year difference between him and the next oldest child, Thomis Tomisen.

Second, Jørgen could have been the child of Thomis Tomisen but he is not stated in Thomis' 1730 probate.

Third, there is a Jørgen (b.1675) age 26 listed in the 1701 census as a worker ("dreng") on the nearby Vogtor farm, whose age would have fit in with his brothers on the Sandvigen farm, but if this Jørgen is the same one listed in the later Sandvigen records, he would have been over one-hundred years old during his second marriage to Berit Pedersdatter in 1776. This Jørgen however could be related to a Thomis Petterssen (not listed) of the nearby Furøen farm who is listed in the 1701 census.

In contradiction to the Kvæfjordboka, Jørgen could have been the only offspring of Thomis Olsøn's second marriage to Kristen Margete and the rest of his older siblings could have been the sons of ? Michelsdatter (c.1645-c.1681). Kvæfjordboka states that Jørgen took over the Sandvigen farm in 1752. More research is needed before his exact relations could been determined.

Jørgen is listed in the Kvæfjordboka.
