Henriette Kristine Henriksdatter (1851-1916)
Although this photograph
was taken in Kabelvåg, Henreitte was born in Øksnes
parish of Nordland County. There was only one known original copy
of this photo taken in c.1903 and was brought here by Helga Christiansen
during her immigration to the United States in 1932. This photograph
of Henriette has recently been called the 'parting photograph',
since it was just discovered that both her children Eline and
Helga Mathisen, left Kabelvåg for Oslo within the year after
this photo was taken. The date was derived from that fact that
Henriette's husband, Kristian Mathisen, was not photograph in
their group picture and that he was known to have died in 1902.
Eline was also known to have immigrated to the United States in
1905 and Helga to Oslo in the same year.
This photograph was originaly slightly damaged due to exposure to sunlight, smoke damage and several scratches, but in spring of 1997 this image was scaned and repaired to it original form.
This photograph is the earliest known in our family, and possiblly the most charished.
